Detoxifying Mineral Mask

Create your own spa through the comfort of your home with this indulgent face mask – without the extravagant price tag. This gorgeous mask clarifies the skin and improves its elasticity, while reducing dryness and flakiness. Rhassoul clay is a reddish-brown clay found beneath the famous Atlas Mountain Range in Morocco. Long used by the ancient Greeks and Romans, this cosmetic clay is a natural skin cleanser and detoxifier because of its absorbent quality. To boot, it contains mineral traces which removes impurities while nourishing skin. Kaolin clay, on the other hand, is a soft white clay which is great for skin exfoliation and healing. It also contains high amounts of minerals which is great for rejuvenation and blood circulation. Kaolin is also used as a scent fixative in  many cosmetic preparations, but it’s gentle on sensitive skin.

Ingredients:                    Weight (%):                     Grams:

Phase A:

Rhassoul clay                  38%                                183 gm.

White kaolin clay             15%                                  72 gm.

Wheatgrass extract         0.5%                                    2 gm.

Phase B:

Distilled water                 34%                                 163 gm.

Vegetable glycerin            10%                                   48 gm.

Panthenol                         1%                                     5 gm.

Phytokeratin                   0.5%                                     2 gm.

Optiphen Plus                   1%                                      5 gm.

Procedure:

In a sterilized beaker, mix all the ingredients of phase A. Then, gradually add the ingredients of phase B while stirring continuously. Mix well until mask forms a smooth paste. Pour into sterilized jar.

To apply: Cleanse your face and neck. Pat it dry. Using a spatula or your fingers, spread the mask thinly on your face and neck, avoiding the eye and mouth area. For dry skin types, leave the mask for no more than 15 minutes, while oily skin types should not extend further than 25 minutes. Try not to contort your face, nor make any facial expressions during application. It is preferable to lie on the bed and close your eyes to promote relaxation and comfort. Wash your face afterwards using a mild cleanser, then moisturize.

Vegetable glycerin

Veg Glycerin or vegetable glycerin, as the name implies, is sourced from plant oils. Propan-1,2,3-triol in IUPAC nomenclature, its chemical formula is C3H8O3 while its CAS registry number is 56-81-5. Glycerin is derived from the Greek word glykys meaning sweet -- as characterized by its taste, and is colorless and viscous. It was discovered by K.W. Shele in 1779 as a by-product of olive oil saponification. Glycerin was first used in the cork and glue process but later branched out in textiles and ink manufacturing. It was later discovered to be vital for dynamite production by Alfred Nobel that it became a crucial product especially during the two world wars.

Glycerin is naturally occurring in animals and plants, including humans. It can either be sourced naturally or synthetically (through petroleum). Manufacturing process is usually seen through saponification: the crude substance derived from fat hydrolysis is first refined and condensed into an aqueous solution (known as sweet water), then further distilled and refined until the solution arrives in its pure form.
Glycerin has a boiling point of 290°C and has a melting point of 20°C. It is miscible in water, ethanol, acetone, and DMSO while immiscible in ether and benzene. It has a specific gravity of 1.26 (20/20°C) and a vapor density of 3.17 (AIR=1).

Glycerin’s kindling point is at 393°C while its flash point is at 177°C. It is highly flammable but doesn’t have any spontaneous combustibility, self-reactivity, and ignitability. It should be taken away from strong oxidizing agents such as chromium trioxide, potassium chlorate, or potassium permanganate to avoid explosion. Glycerin is considered stable under normal storage and handling conditions, though it should be handled carefully because it is hygroscopic.

Veg Glycerin of Chemicals Direct is derived from natural sources like palm and coconut and therefore safe to be used for food, beverages, and medical preparations. Our vegetable glycerin is packaged in compliance with standards and legal requirements set by the FDA‘s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Product is Kosher and USP grade so you are assured of its safety and quality. All products are in stock and ready to be shipped within the day.

Veg Glycerin

Vegetable Glycerin is added to soap in order to produce extra moisturizing properties and to ensure a clear finish. It is easily dissolved into water and alcohol, but does not mix well in oils.

This product has hygroscopic properties. This means it will easily absorb water from the surrounding air. If your container of glycerin is left open, it will absorb water and it will stabilize at 20% water and 80% glycerin. The taste would blister because glycerin is dehydrating. When water is used to dilute it, however, it makes the skin soft.

Veg Glycerin is high in viscosity and is colorless and sweet tasting. It has a high boiling point and freezes as a paste. The most common uses are in soap and other beauty products like lotions. Although, it is common in many other applications.
